[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangju Metropolitan City, together with the Gwangju Tourism Foundation, is conducting regular performances and a K-POP fan art contest using recently developed major tourist sites as stages to spread fan culture as a leading city for K-POP tourism.

The regular performances began on the 16th with a show at the permanent stage in Fan Zone 3 inside Geumnamno 4-ga Station, and will offer diverse entertainment such as K-POP dance, vocals, and hip-hop every Saturday at newly developed tourist spots including Geumnam Butterfly Garden in May, GMAP, and Gwangju Bridge in June.

Additionally, local dance teams ‘Miss Molly’ and ‘Anp’, who showcased outstanding performances and talent on Mnet’s ‘Street Girls Fighter’, filmed videos at the 5·18 Democracy Square and Geumnam Butterfly Garden, capturing the renewed Gwangju tourist sites. These will be actively promoted through Gwangju Tourism TV and other channels in early May.

Following last year, the ‘2nd K-POP Fan Art Contest’ where fans can directly participate will be held again this year.

Participation is open to any K-POP fan residing in Korea, with submissions accepted from May 2 to May 20. The total prize money is 10 million KRW, with 2 million KRW for the grand prize (1 winner), 1 million KRW each for three excellence awards, 500,000 KRW each for four merit awards, and 200,000 KRW each for fifteen encouragement awards.

Detailed information about the regular performances and fan art contest can be found on the Gwangju Tourism Foundation’s website and blog.

Kim Seong-bae, Director of the Tourism Promotion Division of the city, said, “As a city that has produced many K-POP stars, we aim to provide comfort and vitality to citizens’ weary daily lives through high-quality performances and offer various attractions and entertainment to tourists visiting Gwangju. We will do our best to promote the renewed Gwangju tourist sites.”
