Groundwater Policy Expert Professor Kim Sun-oh of Gyeongsang National University Receives Presidential Citation

Professor Kim Sun-oh of the College of Natural Sciences at Gyeongsang National University, who received the Presidential Citation for contributions to policy promotion in the field of groundwater.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Professor Kim Sun-oh of the College of Natural Sciences at Gyeongsang National University received a presidential citation this year on ‘World Water Day’ for his contributions to promoting policies in the groundwater sector, including the establishment of groundwater management policies in agricultural and livestock areas.

Professor Kim has been conducting research for over 20 years as an expert in groundwater environmental pollution assessment, purification, and groundwater water resource conservation.

He has worked on tasks such as investigating groundwater pollution in rural areas and exploring management measures, as well as investigating the actual conditions of groundwater pollution caused by natural radioactive materials, striving to understand the current status of groundwater pollution in Korea and establish management plans.

Since 2020, he has served as a member of the Water Subcommittee of the 8th Central Environmental Policy Committee under the Ministry of Environment.

He has contributed to the development of the domestic groundwater environment sector by serving as an advisor and evaluation committee member for research and development projects and policy establishment related to groundwater management at Ministry of Environment-affiliated institutions such as the National Institute of Environmental Research, Korea Environment Corporation, Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, and Korea Environment Policy & Evaluation Institute.

He also participated in policy direction and research and development in groundwater water resource management by serving as a review and advisory committee member for environmental impact assessments at the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office and Gyeongnam Province. Based on his extensive experience, he has been recognized for contributing to the development of groundwater water resource management at local governments.

Professor Kim Sun-oh, who has devoted himself to academic development and nurturing future scholars as an editorial board member and director of the Groundwater Soil Environment Society and the Korean Society of Economic and Environmental Geology, said, “As a specialized researcher in the groundwater environment field, I will do my best for future-oriented and sustainable groundwater conservation.”
