Jeongeup-si Conducts 4th COVID-19 Booster Vaccination for Those Aged 60 and Over

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Jeongeup City, Jeollabuk-do, is starting the 4th dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to prevent severe cases and deaths among the elderly aged 60 and over.

The city announced on the 19th that, following the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's plan for the 4th dose for those aged 60 and above, the 4th dose, which was initially targeted at high-risk groups such as immunocompromised individuals and nursing hospitals/facilities, will be expanded to include those aged 60 and older.

The vaccination target includes elderly people aged 60 and above, born on or before December 31, 1962, who have completed their 3rd dose.

Even if there is a history of COVID-19 infection before or after the 3rd dose, vaccination is possible upon the individual's request.

Vaccination can be administered starting from 4 months (120 days) after the 3rd dose, and in principle, mRNA vaccines such as Pfizer or Moderna are used; however, if the recipient prefers, the Novavax vaccine can be administered.

Vaccination methods include same-day vaccination using leftover vaccines at designated medical institutions and advance reservation vaccination.

Advance reservations can be made from the 18th via the reservation website or the COVID-19 vaccination call center, and vaccination dates can be selected starting from the 25th.

Since medical institutions operate a three-day weekly schedule, it is necessary to confirm vaccination availability in advance by phone for same-day vaccination.

A city official said, "Although the Omicron variant's spread is declining, the proportion of newly confirmed cases among those aged 60 and over is actually increasing. Since the elderly are a representative high-risk group, we ask for active participation in vaccination to reduce the risk of severe illness and death."
