원본보기 아이콘[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] Lee Chang-yong, the nominee for Governor of the Bank of Korea, revealed that he struggled with the decision to accept a public office due to a seven-month battle with illness.
On the 19th, during the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee confirmation hearing, in response to a health-related question from Kim Doo-kwan, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, Lee said, "I went through a seven-month battle with illness last year, so I am personally living a second life."
Lee stated, "When I was asked to take the public office this time, I was concerned about my health," but added, "However, I have been working full-time at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the past year," indicating his recovery. He further mentioned, "I believe this is an opportunity to live my second life meaningfully for society."
In response, Representative Kim said, "The four-year term is a very important period, and since you will be performing the role of the Bank of Korea Governor, I hope you will take good care of your health."
