[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] NHN Enterprise announced on the 19th that the site selection for the public cloud data center in Suncheon City has been completed.

Previously, NHN signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Jeollanam-do and Suncheon City to establish a public cloud data center and a smart IT business valley, announcing plans to build the first private-public partnership type public cloud center.

NHN Enterprise plans to invest 300 billion KRW over 20 years in Suncheon City to develop the data center and IT valley, focusing on talent development and public sector cloud transition projects.

After the agreement, these organizations conducted a site inspection of candidate locations in Suncheon City and finalized the purchase of the data center site in March this year, beginning detailed coordination. The final selected site is part of the 4th Industrial Revolution cluster promoted by Suncheon City, free from natural hazard conditions and risks, and is conveniently located near Suncheon Station and the Doryong IC of the Namhae Expressway, offering favorable transportation conditions.

On the 13th, NHN Enterprise and Suncheon City held a public cloud transition briefing session for stakeholders to share the site selection results and began discussions on ways to contribute to regional development in Jeollanam-do. On this day, the organizations announced the completion of administrative procedures and set a goal to complete the center by the fourth quarter of 2024.

By 2025, public data from Jeollanam-do and its affiliated institutions, as well as from 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam, will be transferred, and local government big data management will also be performed. NHN Enterprise plans to establish a future-oriented advanced industrial ecosystem centered on the data center, contributing to job creation through IT industry revitalization, IT talent development, and corporate attraction, positioning itself as a core infrastructure.

Kim Donghoon, CEO of NHN Enterprise, stated, "We will continuously strengthen cooperation to expand cloud technology adoption and its base to become the first successful case of a private-public partnership type public cloud center."
