[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] S-OIL announced on the 19th that it donated 100 million KRW in sponsorship funds to the Heart Heart Foundation at its headquarters in Mapo-gu, Seoul, to support the 'Heart Heart Orchestra,' composed of individuals with developmental disabilities.
S-OIL's sponsorship funds will be used to support the performance activities of the members with developmental disabilities, provide disability awareness education for elementary, middle, and high school students as well as the public, and support the Heart Heart Orchestra's Sunshine Sharing Concert. Since 2009, S-OIL has been sponsoring the foundation to improve awareness of people with disabilities. According to S-OIL, the Heart Heart Orchestra, founded by the foundation in 2006, is the first orchestra in Korea for individuals with developmental disabilities, created to help develop the talents and social participation of disabled youth. An S-OIL representative said, "The harmony achieved by the members with developmental disabilities after long practice was beautiful and moving," adding, "S-OIL plans to continue supporting the members so they can gain opportunities to communicate confidently with society through music."
Over 13 years, S-OIL has sponsored the Sunshine Sharing Concert (30 times), disability awareness education 'Heart Happy School' (at 387 elementary, middle, and high schools and local governments, reaching about 188,600 people), and scholarships for performers with developmental disabilities (241 recipients). In particular, five former middle and high school orchestra members from over 10 years ago were hired as new employees this year, and small concerts are held weekly at headquarters, actively supporting music activities for youth with developmental disabilities.
