"I Will Select Future Unicorn Companies with My Own Hands"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Kwon Chil-seung, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry) announced on the 19th that it is recruiting a citizen jury to participate in the final evaluation for selecting 'K-Unicorn' companies. The citizen jury, consisting of 130 members, will conduct a fair and transparent evaluation together with 65 domestic and international private expert evaluators, reflecting diverse public perspectives. K-Unicorn companies refer to the support targets of the Baby Unicorn 200 and Preliminary Unicorn Special Guarantee programs promoted as part of the 'K-Unicorn Project.'

The citizen jury will evaluate companies using the same evaluation criteria as the expert evaluators, and companies will be selected by combining the results of the expert evaluators (70%) and the citizen jury (30%). The evaluation criteria are ▲Growth potential as a unicorn company (60 points) ▲Degree of support and encouragement for the company to become a unicorn (30 points) ▲Potential for social contribution (10 points).

Those wishing to participate in the citizen jury can apply online by submitting investment or startup-related supporting documents. If the number of applicants exceeds 130, selection will be made by lottery. Participants in the citizen jury will receive an evaluation allowance. The selected evaluators will participate in the Baby Unicorn evaluation at the COEX conference room on the 25th of next month.

Park Sang-yong, Head of the Venture Innovation Policy Division at the Ministry, said, "Since this is the stage of selecting representative innovative companies that will lead the future of our country, we operate an open evaluation system with a citizen jury to enhance transparency and fairness in the selection process."
