[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Boryung announced on the 19th that it will hold the "1st CIS Challenge" to find human healthcare solutions in space.
With the advent of the full-fledged space tourism era, Boryung expects human activities in space to become more active and has been preparing the CIS (Care In Space) project since 2020 to proactively respond to changes in human health conditions that may occur outside the atmosphere.
The CIS Challenge program, as part of the CIS project, is designed to bring together participants with creative ideas, including space healthcare startups from around the world, to find solutions to various healthcare-related issues that may arise in space in the future.
Global participants will undergo application submission and preliminary idea screening over approximately three months, and will compete at the Pitch Day event held on July 28 at the UCLA Conference Hall. Selected teams will have the opportunity to present their unique ideas and solutions to investors worldwide during the live-streamed Demo Day in December.
During the competition, based on a partnership with NASA's Human Research Program (NASA HRP), space-related companies from the U.S. and Israel, as well as experts from leading universities such as Stanford, Harvard, MIT, and Georgia Tech, will participate as judges and mentors, providing tailored mentoring for idea validation and business development arising from the challenge.
The CIS Challenge is hosted by Boryung, with Axiom Space, a U.S. space development company, and Starburst Aerospace, a global aerospace startup accelerator, participating as co-organizers.
Im Dong-joo, team leader of Boryung GIC (Global Investment Center), who oversees the CIS project, stated, "We plan to hold the CIS Challenge annually to lead various healthcare-related issues that may occur in space. Furthermore, we aim to discover new investment opportunities and establish ourselves as a global partner essential in the field of space medicine."
