[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province is promoting the 'Clean Livestock Farm Creation Project' as a measure to revitalize eco-friendly livestock farming and resolve environmental issues such as odor from livestock farms.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 19th that "it plans to expand the number of clean livestock farms to 2,000 by 2025."
The project operates by designating farms that meet evaluation criteria through document review and on-site assessment conducted under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for farms wishing to apply.
The main evaluation criteria include livestock facilities, odor management, manure treatment, and the condition of the environment around the livestock facilities.
Selected farms receive a certificate and a plaque, and are given additional points when selected as beneficiaries for various eco-friendly livestock support projects such as livestock manure treatment and improvement of livestock facility image. They also receive expert consulting and follow-up management support.
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis without a separate application period, and farms wishing to apply can inquire and apply through the livestock departments of their respective city or county offices.
In addition to this project, the province plans to invest a total of 35 billion KRW this year to support nine projects including livestock environment improvement and facilities to reduce livestock odor.
Meanwhile, complaints about livestock odor in the Gyeonggi area sharply increased from 1,729 cases at the end of 2018 to 3,017 cases at the end of 2020, according to investigations.
