원본보기 아이콘[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] SKC, a materials and chemical company under SK Group, is launching Korea's first game-based plastic separation and disposal information platform to promote eco-friendly plastic consumption culture.
On the 18th, SKC announced that it signed a business agreement at the SKC headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Climate Change Center, a non-profit organization in the environmental sector, and 'Montenum,' an environmental game social venture, to cooperate in activating the eco-friendly plastic information platform 'My Green Place.' My Green Place is a smartphone application-type mobile platform that SKC will launch on the 22nd in celebration of 'Earth Day.'
By scanning the barcode of products using plastic containers or packaging, users can instantly check related information such as explanations of plastic materials that are difficult to identify by name alone, including PET (polyethylene terephthalate), PE (polyethylene), and ABS (high-value-added synthetic resin), as well as 13 types of separation and disposal methods and recycling ease grades. Information on over 10,000 products using plastic is stored in the app, helping users select products with excellent recyclability and separate and dispose of them correctly.
My Green Place applied Korea's first game-based plastic information platform format to encourage citizen participation. Users can decorate their own 'world' within the game using points accumulated through eco-friendly activities and enjoy competing in point rankings with other users.
SKC also plans to promote a campaign to plant trees in Central Asia, where desertification is progressing, in the name of outstanding users. According to the business agreement, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry will continuously update the plastic product information database within the platform, Montenum will manage platform operations based on its game development capabilities, and the Climate Change Center will conduct various campaigns to spread the platform.
Having declared '2040 Greenhouse Gas Net Zero,' SKC is strengthening its eco-friendly biodegradable material business while also promoting a pyrolysis oil business for recycling waste plastics. Through the launch of this app, the company aims to help general consumers participate in efforts to reduce plastic usage.
Park Woncheol, CEO of SKC, said, "Environmental problems can never be solved without cooperation with various stakeholders," adding, "Through this collaboration, we will take the lead in spreading an eco-friendly culture for a sustainable world where future generations can live."
