[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The Democratic Party of Korea's primary election for the Gyeonggi Province governor candidate in the June 1 local elections will be a four-way contest among former Saeroun Mulgyeol leader Kim Dong-yeon, Representative Ahn Min-seok, former Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young, and Representative Jo Jeong-sik.

Kim Tae-nyeon, chairman of the Democratic Party's Public Office Candidate Recommendation and Management Committee (Gonggwanwi), announced this plan for the Gyeonggi governor candidate primary after the 5th Gonggwanwi meeting held at the central party office in Yeouido on the afternoon of the same day.

Chairman Kim said, "The primary candidates are Kim Dong-yeon, Ahn Min-seok, Yeom Tae-young, and Jo Jeong-sik, and the four-person primary will be conducted as a national participation primary reflecting 50% party members' votes and 50% secure number electorate votes." He added, "If no candidate receives a majority in the first round, a runoff vote will be held."

The Gonggwanwi also decided to recommend former Presidential Chief of Staff Noh Young-min as the sole candidate for the Chungbuk governor.

At the emergency committee meeting on the 8th, Democratic Party co-chair Park Ji-hyun pointed out the controversy surrounding Noh's 2020 apartment sale, stating, "Those who disappointed the public with real estate issues have registered as preliminary candidates."
