[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Joo Ki-hwan, a preliminary candidate for the mayor of Gwangju from the People Power Party, said on the 18th, "I will effectively communicate President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's sincerity toward Honam."
On the morning of the same day, Joo met with reporters at the Gwangju City Council and stated, "Everyone must have seen President-elect Yoon's sincerity toward Honam, even though during the presidential election process he was unable to visit Gwangju and pay respects at the May 18th Cemetery, instead offering a moment of silence."
When asked if there was any communication with President-elect Yoon during the nomination process, he explained, "Since I am considered the right candidate, I believe not only the President-elect but also the party recommended me. It was not that the President-elect personally appointed me, but the party recommended and the nomination committee decided."
Regarding the absence of Honam natives in the first cabinet of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, he emphasized, "The President-elect holds a strong belief that the personnel appointments of public officials from Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Honam have applied incentives compared to other regions and that there is absolutely no discrimination."
Candidate Joo plans to hold a campaign announcement on the 19th at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology Promotion and will begin full-scale election activities starting with a visit to the National May 18th Democratic Cemetery.
