[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Chonnam National University Hospital has ranked among the top hospitals in South Korea for four consecutive years in the ‘World Best Hospitals 2022’ selected by the global news weekly Newsweek.
Newsweek announced on the 18th that Chonnam National University Hospital scored 78.75% and ranked 19th domestically in the ‘World Best Hospitals’ evaluation conducted jointly with Statista, a renowned German global market research and consumer data organization.
Since the first evaluation in 2019, the hospital has maintained a top 10 domestic ranking for four consecutive years and has received high evaluations among regional national university hospitals, continuing its reputation as the best national university hospital in the country.
Newsweek and Statista reflected three types of data in this evaluation to ensure credible rankings: recommendations from hospital staff, patient experiences, and medical-related indicators.
Specifically, the evaluation criteria consisted of ▲online survey results from over 80,000 doctors, hospital officials, and health experts across 27 countries (55%) ▲medical performance indicators (30%) ▲patient satisfaction surveys (15%). For domestic hospitals, evaluations from the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service on intensive care units, acute diseases, cancer, and drug appropriateness, as well as patient experience assessments regarding doctors, nurses, and hospital environment, were incorporated.
The top ranking was Seoul Asan Medical Center (97.76%), followed by Samsung Medical Center (95.68%) in second place, Seoul National University Hospital (91.86%) in third, Severance Hospital (88.85%) in fourth, and Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital (84.98%) in fifth.
Chonnam National University Hospital, ranked 19th following Kyung Hee University Medical Center (18th, 78.96%), received the third highest evaluation among national university hospitals after Seoul National University Hospital and Chungnam National University Hospital.
Hospital Director Ahn Young-geun stated, “Being recognized for excellence by a global media outlet for four consecutive years confirms that Chonnam National University Hospital is a top-tier general hospital with international competitiveness,” adding, “We will continue to faithfully carry out the core duties of a national university hospital to maintain our reputation in medical care, research, education, and public health.”
