Gwangju Mayor Candidate Lee Yong-seop "Promoting Gwangju-type Welfare Model Season 2"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Lee Yong-seop, a preliminary candidate for mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 18th the fifth pledge to complete a "Bigger and Stronger Gwangju" with the promotion of "Wider and Denser Gwangju-type Welfare Model Season 2."


During the 7th term of the elected government, Gwangju City established the "Gwangju-type Welfare Model" with the basic direction of welfare policy being "providing jobs to those who can work and offering customized welfare benefits to those who cannot."


Over the past four years, candidate Lee has built innovative governance such as the opening of the Gwangju Social Service Center, the launch of the Gwangju Welfare Research Institute, and the establishment of the Gwangju Welfare Platform, while expanding welfare infrastructure including the Senior Citizens' Hall, Disabled Persons' Hall, Public Children's Rehabilitation Center, and Bitgoeul 50+ Center.


He also presented a new path for a "community living together" through the nation's first 24-hour one-on-one care service for people with severe developmental disabilities.


Candidate Lee stated, "Based on these achievements, in the 8th term of the elected government, we will enhance the function of the Welfare Cooperation Committee, a public-private governance body, to improve the public nature and appropriateness of welfare policies and services, and standardize welfare models led by Gwangju, such as the integrated care project for people with severe developmental disabilities, to expand them nationwide."


Furthermore, candidate Lee said, "We will improve the completeness of welfare services through customized support that enables welfare recipients such as middle-aged people, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and children to lead happy lives."
