[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Jeonnam Province has decided to actively discover new national treasury projects for next year, focusing on regional balanced development and future strategic industries, and to actively engage in securing national funds.
On the 18th, Jeonnam Province held the "2023 National Treasury Fund Securing Progress Report Meeting" to focus on discussing opinions presented by central government ministries during the national fund proposal activities and corresponding countermeasures.
According to the government budget formulation schedule, proposals for projects must be submitted to the relevant ministries by the end of this month. Accordingly, Jeonnam Province held the report meeting to preemptively understand government policy directions before the budget review by each ministry, supplement the rationale, and maximize reflection in the government budget.
Among the major new projects, new growth engine research and development (R&D) and bio projects include ▲290 billion KRW for demand-linked component technology development for ultra-small electric vehicle (EV) platforms ▲14.3 billion KRW for strengthening supply chains by establishing a ceramic process technology demonstration platform ▲24 billion KRW for vaccine-specialized process workforce training projects.
Carbon neutrality and energy transition projects include ▲45 billion KRW for establishing a full-cycle carbon-neutral environmental management system for electric vehicles ▲25 billion KRW for establishing the Jeonnam RE100 transition support center ▲28 billion KRW for building core equipment for green hydrogen supply ▲24 billion KRW for domestic technology development of hydrogen fuel cell membrane electrode assemblies ▲45 billion KRW for establishing a high-power semiconductor center ▲150 billion KRW for establishing the National Offshore Wind Energy Research Institute.
Future agriculture and fisheries convergence projects include ▲109.1 billion KRW for establishing the Agricultural Food Climate Change Response Center ▲33 billion KRW for constructing the National Agricultural Industry Big Data Center ▲10 billion KRW for building an advanced rapid freezing system for exports ▲20 billion KRW for designating a specialized promotion zone for the Kim industry.
Southwest coastal tourism and cultural hub development projects include ▲45 billion KRW for the Southern Region Wide-area Tourism Development Specialized Brand Project ▲36 billion KRW for excavation, investigation, and maintenance of the Mahan Historical and Cultural Zone relics ▲40 billion KRW for the "Islands You Want to Visit" development project.
Welfare and other administrative projects include ▲9 billion KRW for expanding the welfare mobile team project to alleviate inconveniences for vulnerable groups ▲16 billion KRW for constructing an eco-friendly hospital ship ▲25 billion KRW for revitalizing small islands.
Key regional social overhead capital (SOC) and regional balanced development projects include ▲137.4 billion KRW for the straightening project of the Myodo Strait route at Gwangyang (Yeocheon) Port ▲90.4 billion KRW for two projects expanding national and local roads including Jangheung Yuchi to Geumjeong ▲308.1 billion KRW for establishing the Naju Energy National Industrial Complex ▲30 billion KRW for establishing the National Yeongsan River Estuary Management Center.
Jeonnam Province plans to strongly request the importance of projects pledged by President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol for Jeonnam, including ▲establishing an eco-friendly renewable energy industrial belt ▲creating the Goheung space and aviation industry cluster ▲developing the Gwangyang Port global smart port ▲constructing the Hwasun advanced medical complex ▲building the Southwest Coast marine ecological tourism and leisure belt. Among regional issues, efforts are being made to incorporate ▲creating a global offshore wind industry ecosystem ▲establishing an ultra-high-power laser research facility into the new government's national agenda.
A Jeonnam Province official said, "We must thoroughly check whether regional pending projects, preliminary feasibility exemption projects, and local fiscal system improvement tasks are reflected in the new government’s national agenda and do our best until the end. We will strive to have national projects included in national plans and frequently visit executing agencies such as the Korea Development Institute (KDI) to provide necessary materials promptly to secure project feasibility."
He added, "Please actively explain the justification for investment in national projects by intensively visiting relevant ministries before the government budget formulation, especially led by senior officials."
