[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The prosecution, investigating allegations of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's blacklist, is summoning former Korea Institute of Design Promotion President Jeong Yongbin as a witness for questioning on the 18th.
According to the legal community on the 18th, the Criminal Division 6 of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Choi Hyungwon) called former President Jeong as a witness around 9:30 a.m. and is currently questioning him.
Jeong, who served as the President of the Korea Institute of Design Promotion from June 2015 to September 2017, submitted his resignation with about eight months left in his term. The Korea Institute of Design Promotion, where Jeong worked, is not among the eight public enterprises under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy that were raided by the prosecution on the 28th of last month.
Baek Changhyun, former President of Korea Coal Corporation, who also resigned around the same time, appeared as a witness and was questioned on the 15th.
Meanwhile, the prosecution is expected to summon and investigate five suspects, including former Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Baek Woonkyu, after analyzing seized materials and completing witness questioning of heads of institutions under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
