[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeollanam-do Hwasun-gun announced on the 18th that it will promote the ‘River and Estuary Garbage Cleanup Project’ to improve and preserve the water quality of the Yeongsan River, Seomjin River, and connected tributaries.
The county plans to invest a total project cost of 137 million KRW by the end of this year to collect and dispose of 400 tons of abandoned and scattered garbage in the local river areas.
Among the collected garbage, recyclable waste will be sorted and recycled, while non-recyclable waste will be outsourced for disposal.
For collection personnel, 10 people from vulnerable employment groups and middle-aged workers were hired, contributing to local job creation.
A county official said, “We will do our best to remove pollution sources such as garbage collection to create a clean river environment,” and added, “We ask residents to participate in activities to preserve the ecosystem, such as reducing the use of disposable products in daily life and properly disposing of garbage.”
Meanwhile, last year, the county collected and disposed of 346 tons of garbage through the river and estuary garbage cleanup project, focusing on preventing water pollution and preserving the ecosystem.
