[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Hanwha Systems announced on the 18th that it will export purely domestically developed combat management systems (CMS) to two 3,100-ton Philippine patrol vessels. The contract size amounts to 33 million USD (approximately 40 billion KRW).
This is a consecutive achievement following the combat system project for two 2,600-ton Philippine frigates ordered in 2017 and the performance upgrade project for three Philippine frigates in 2019. Hanwha Systems will equip the Philippine patrol vessels with domestically produced combat systems following the frigates. With this, Hanwha Systems records its third export to the Philippine Navy, supplying CMS to a total of seven vessels.
Since 2000, Hanwha Systems has developed combat management systems, known as the "brain of the vessel," purely with its own technology, achieving localization. It supplies all combat systems for various surface and underwater vessels of the Republic of Korea Navy, including high-speed combat ships, large amphibious support ships, training ships, destroyers, frigates, and submarines.
Based on its long-standing know-how and expertise in the maritime systems field, Hanwha Systems operates a lifecycle support system based on performance maintenance to maximize the peacetime availability of combat systems on Korean Navy vessels and to provide efficient follow-up logistics support throughout the lifecycle. Leveraging this foundation, Hanwha Systems is promoting strategic cooperation to provide more effective follow-up logistics support to overseas customers such as the Philippine Navy through organic collaboration with domestic shipyards supplying export vessels.
Uh Sung-chul, CEO of Hanwha Systems, said, “We are very pleased that the Korean-style combat system, developed purely with our own technology and continuously upgraded by integrating cutting-edge ICT and COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) technologies, can once again contribute to strengthening the Philippine naval power. Hanwha Systems will work closely with Hyundai Heavy Industries to maximize the quality and performance of the Philippine patrol vessels,” he added.
Hanwha Systems plans to actively participate in follow-up projects such as the introduction of new vessels including offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) and submarines during the implementation of the Philippine Navy’s modernization plan. Meanwhile, Hanwha Systems will participate in 'ADAS (Asian Defense & Security) 2022,' held from the 27th to 29th in Manila, Philippines, showcasing the combat systems of the vessels that achieved this export success, as well as maritime and ground equipment and space internet platforms targeting the Southeast Asian market.
