Chungnam, Maintenance of 5 Local River Districts Including Cheonan and Seosan

[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province is undertaking maintenance projects for five local river districts within its jurisdiction.


The Provincial General Construction Office announced on the 18th that, according to the comprehensive local river maintenance plan, it will carry out maintenance on local rivers including Cheonan Guryongcheon, Seosan Seongyeoncheon, Gyeryong Dogokcheon, Hongseong Sapgyocheon, and Seocheon Sollicheon.


A total project cost of 87.2 billion KRW is expected to be invested in the local river maintenance. The Provincial General Construction Office plans to start a design service worth 4 billion KRW within the first half of the year, aiming to complete compensation by next year and finish the project by 2025.


The budget allocated per river is 18.7 billion KRW for Guryongcheon, 14 billion KRW for Seongyeoncheon, 15.1 billion KRW for Dogokcheon, 34.4 billion KRW for Sapgyocheon, and 5 billion KRW for Sollicheon. The maintenance budget will be used for river width expansion, embankment construction, and reconstruction of aging bridges.


A representative from the Provincial General Construction Office stated, “The local river maintenance is being promoted in response to the increased frequency of natural disasters such as heavy rainfall due to climate change,” and added, “We will make every effort to ensure that each project is completed early.”
