[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is operating 'Health Dream Schools' at 77 schools in the province this year.
Health Dream Schools are schools that investigate students' exercise and health status, gather opinions from the educational community, and plan and implement school-specific integrated curricula in physical education, nutrition, and health. In particular, elementary, middle, and high schools collaborate with local governments, public health centers, city/county sports associations, hospitals, and various organizations to create a cooperative health education system and operate diverse programs reflecting the characteristics of the schools and local communities.
Looking at major programs, A Elementary School is improving dietary habits through gardening activities in cooperation with the Agricultural Technology Center and the public health center, and plans physical and mental health activities by integrating play-centered physical activities with seasonal and family events.
B High School, with support from the local sports association through the student council, operates league matches by sport and stress relief spaces for school life to promote emotional healing, and plans to make walking exercises during commuting and lunchtime a habit.
The Gyeonggi Office of Education is supporting each school to realize various educational activities by linking community resources so that students can manage their health autonomously, in response to growing concerns about declining student fitness due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation.
Furthermore, the Gyeonggi Office of Education is conducting policy research by forming a research group to help the educational community recognize the importance of lifelong health management habits. The Health Dream Policy Promotion Team continuously reviews and supports each school's implementation plans to produce effective results and shares excellent cases in the future.
Seong Jeong-hyun, Director of Student Health at the Gyeonggi Office of Education, emphasized, "The Health Dream Policy is a policy to overcome the COVID-19 situation and realize educational recovery," adding, "We will continuously communicate and cooperate with related organizations to strengthen support so that each school can carry out diverse education integrating physical education, nutrition, and health fields tailored to educational demands."
