[Asia Economy Reporter Sumi Hwang] Nikita Khrushchev's great-granddaughter has warned of the possibility of Russian President Vladimir Putin using nuclear weapons.

On the 16th (local time), according to the BBC, Nina Khrushova, a professor of international relations at New School University in New York, stated, "President Putin will do whatever it takes to win the war."

Professor Khrushova, who has been critical of President Putin, is also well known as Khrushchev's great-granddaughter. Khrushchev emerged as the new leader after Stalin, the absolute ruler who led the Soviet Cold War regime, died in 1953. He gained attention for his speeches that candidly exposed and criticized the dark aspects of Stalin's regime.

Professor Khrushova conveyed in an interview with the BBC, "This war is something President Putin planned to win, so he will try to win at any cost."

She expressed concern, saying, "If he thinks it is necessary to use tactical nuclear weapons to declare victory, that could be one of the options available to President Putin," and "The Russian government could use tactical nuclear weapons to destroy Ukrainian territory."

She also added, "I was dismayed by the developments of this situation just days after Russia invaded Ukraine," and "My great-grandfather (Khrushchev) would have thought this attack was despicable."
