[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Kim Dong-geun, the preliminary candidate for mayor of Uijeongbu from the People Power Party, has requested cooperation from Kim Eun-hye, the preliminary candidate for governor of Gyeonggi Province, on the extension of Line 8 to Uijeongbu.

On the 17th, at a meeting with Kim Eun-hye at Uijeongbu Jeil Market, Kim Dong-geun stated, "The extension of Line 8 to Uijeongbu is an important starting point for the future of Uijeongbu."

He continued, "For the past 70 years, Uijeongbu has endured many restrictions and sacrifices as a military city, and its development has been relatively slow compared to other cities in northern Gyeonggi," explaining to Kim Eun-hye the necessity of extending Line 8 to Uijeongbu.

The extension of Line 8 to Uijeongbu, which has been confirmed to extend to Byeollae in Namyangju, was designated last June as an additional review project in the '4th National Railroad Network Construction Plan.'

In response, Kim Eun-hye said, "Uijeongbu requires special compensation," and added, "We will boldly lift the overlapping regulations in northern Gyeonggi that have caused sacrifices due to security reasons."

She then announced tailored pledges for Uijeongbu, including ▲ the establishment of a 24-hour children's hospital in northern Gyeonggi ▲ the creation of an economic free zone in northern Gyeonggi ▲ opposition to the construction of a logistics center in Gosan-dong.
