[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] On the 17th, members of the People Power Party belonging to the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee repeatedly urged President Moon Jae-in to express his position regarding the Democratic Party's proposal of the 'Geomsu Wanbak (Complete Removal of Prosecutorial Investigation Authority)' bill.

The People Power Party's judiciary committee members issued a joint statement on the same day, saying, "Prosecutor General Kim Oh-soo is protesting the unfairness of Geomsu Wanbak by taking the extreme step of submitting his resignation," and pointed out, "The reason he had no choice but to resign is largely the responsibility of President Moon Jae-in." They continued, "If the president, the highest national authority, remains silent on the Democratic Party's plan to forcibly pass the Geomsu Wanbak legislation, it is an irresponsible and cowardly act," and demanded, "Before considering whether to exercise the veto power, clearly state your position on Geomsu Wanbak to the public." Prosecutor General Kim submitted his resignation this morning in protest against the Democratic Party's forcible passage of the Geomsu Wanbak bill.

They also demanded a responsible attitude from Prosecutor General Kim. They criticized, "Submitting a resignation is the easiest form of escape," and emphasized, "If you truly feel responsible, until your resignation is accepted, please play your role with a resolve to die rather than live to block the Geomsu Wanbak bill for the sake of the public exposed to crime, victims suffering from crime, and innocent suspects."

The Blue House had previously revealed on the 13th that although Prosecutor General Kim requested a meeting, they effectively refused by stating, "This is an issue that the National Assembly should discuss."
