원본보기 아이콘[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, who is running in the People Power Party's Gyeonggi Province gubernatorial primary, promised on the 17th, "If I become governor, I will start a Gyeonggi Province-style public silver town."
On the same day, Yoo said through social media (SNS), "I will review the unnecessarily wasted budget in Gyeonggi Province and build public silver towns across Gyeonggi where the elderly can spend their later years comfortably," adding, "I will create a happy community for the elderly that combines housing, meals, health, leisure activities, and communication."
He stated, "Instead of basic income or basic housing, I will use the budget for the comfortable later years of the elderly," and added, "The Gyeonggi Province-style silver town will also be a great help to the 30 to 50 children who have to support their fathers and mothers." Yoo said, "I will do my best to find locations with good accessibility so that families can visit their parents frequently."
He diagnosed, "Our country has already entered a super-aged society," and said, "The issues of solitary deaths among the elderly and economic poverty among the elderly are worsening day by day, and the suffering of supporting families is also very great." Yoo pointed out, "Although the elderly have a high preference for silver towns, in reality, except for those who are economically stable, the costs are unaffordable," adding, "Private silver towns require huge deposits and monthly rents, so unless one is a high-pensioner or a parent with wealthy children, it is impossible to even consider."
He criticized, "What on earth have the Democratic Party administration and former Governor Lee Jae-myung, who said 'people first,' done so far?" and "What has Lee Jae-myung (former Gyeonggi Province governor), who kept talking about all kinds of basic series, done for the elderly in Gyeonggi Province?"
