[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Jeong Ho-young, nominee for Minister of Health and Welfare, stated that he will undergo thorough verification by the National Assembly and the Ministry of Education regarding the allegations related to his child's medical school transfer admission and his son's military service.

On the afternoon of the 17th, Jeong held a press conference at the Seoul National Medical Center and emphasized, "The allegations raised since my nomination as minister are not based on facts, and there was no improper use of my position in my child's medical school transfer or my son's military service evaluation."

Jeong said, "Nevertheless, given the continued allegations, I request that the Ministry of Education conduct a thorough and prompt investigation into all areas related to my child's transfer admission for a more objective verification."

Regarding the military service evaluation, he stated, "My son will also undergo examination and diagnosis for his spinal condition at a medical institution designated by the National Assembly."

Jeong added, "If appointed as Minister of Health and Welfare, I will leverage my over 40 years of expertise working in regional medical fields and my experience responding to COVID-19 to achieve the public's wish for a return to normal life and innovate the quarantine and medical system to prepare for the resurgence of infectious diseases."

He also expressed, "I apologize for causing concern to the public due to the allegations," and added, "I will provide detailed explanations regarding all raised allegations during the upcoming confirmation hearing, and, most importantly, thoroughly explain my policy plans in the health and welfare sector."
