[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education and the Korea Educational Development Institute are holding a contest for user-created content (UCC) to prevent infringement of educational activities for elementary, middle, and high school students from the 18th to the 29th, aiming to foster a school culture of mutual respect.
Infringement of educational activities refers to acts such as assault, threats, defamation, sexual violence crimes against teachers, illegal distribution of information, obstruction of work, and unauthorized distribution of teachers' videos or photos.
Recently, with the activation of remote classes, new types of infringements have emerged, and infringements by the general public, including parents, have increased. The number of cases decreased from 2,454 in 2018 to 1,197 in 2020, but increased to 1,215 in the first semester of last year.
The contest is held under the slogan "A school of respect, consideration, and mutual trust," with themes including ▲easy-to-understand methods to prevent infringement of educational activities ▲practical cases of protecting educational activities at our school ▲respect and consideration among teachers, students, and parents ▲our promises to protect educational activities.
The formats for submissions are free-form, including music videos, parodies, documentaries, dramas, etc. Entries must be submitted through the contest website by April 29.
In addition to expert judging, a public online voting will also be conducted. Expert judges will evaluate the relevance to the theme, originality and creativity, completeness, and usability. Online voting will take place from May 9 to 15.
After expert judging and public online voting, a total of 22 teams will be selected and awarded: one grand prize team per elementary and middle/high school division (prize money 500,000 KRW), two excellence award teams (prize money 200,000 KRW), three encouragement award teams (prize money 100,000 KRW), and five participation award teams (snack gifticons).
