[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa District Office, is set to actively promote the ‘Green Parking Fence Removal’ project, which secures parking spaces by demolishing fences to resolve residents' parking issues.
The ‘Green Parking Fence Removal’ project involves demolishing fences and gates in residential areas to secure parking spaces within residents' properties, thereby solving parking difficulties and preventing widespread illegal parking in neighborhood alleys?a twofold benefit. Since its inception in 2004, a total of 1,019 locations with 1,862 parking spaces have been created.
In particular, due to high satisfaction among participating residents, this year the district will expand support to include detached houses, multi-family houses, apartment complexes, and some neighborhood living facilities. The goal for this year is to create more than 20 parking spaces.
Residents can receive support of 9 million KRW per parking space per household, with an additional 1.5 million KRW provided for each space exceeding one, up to a maximum of 28 million KRW.
Applications for the project are accepted year-round and can be submitted at the nearest community service center or the district office’s Parking Management Division.
The district plans to begin construction in order of application for eligible sites starting from April.
Additionally, as part of the ‘Geoyeom-Macheon Area Comprehensive Development Plan,’ the district opened the ‘Geoyeodong Resident Mutual Parking Lot’ with 174 spaces on the 31st of last month. Furthermore, construction of the Samjeon Neighborhood Park public parking lot and the Bangidong aged complex public office building parking lot is underway, while efforts are being made to expand resident-priority parking zones and implement parking lot sharing projects through the discovery of idle land.
Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa District, stated, “Songpa District is a major transportation hub in Seoul, and parking issues are among the most urgent concerns raised by residents. We will focus even more on expanding parking lots, a pledge of the 7th local government administration, to further improve the quality of life for residents in their daily lives.”
