[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Nayeon] Ukrainian police announced that more than 900 civilian bodies were found in the Kyiv area, the capital of Ukraine, which had been occupied by Russian forces.

Ukrainian authorities criticized the Russian military for summary executions of innocent people.

According to the Associated Press, Andriy Nebytov, head of the Kyiv Regional Police Department, said at a briefing on the 15th (local time), "More than 900 civilian bodies were found in areas from which Russian troops withdrew."

Nebytov stated, "95% of the bodies died from gunshot wounds and were either abandoned on the streets or hastily buried."

He added, "As a result, we have confirmed that civilians were summarily executed on the streets during the Russian occupation," and "Every day, more bodies are being discovered in building debris and mass graves." The area with the highest number of victims was Bucha, a suburb of Kyiv, where over 350 bodies were found.

Russian forces are suspected of committing mass killings of civilians in Bucha and other suburbs of Kyiv.

Anatoliy Fedoruk, mayor of Bucha, mentioned on the 12th (local time), "So far, we have found 403 bodies believed to have been killed by Russian troops."

Among them were bodies with hands tied behind their backs and gunshot wounds to the back of the head, and a mass grave containing about 50 bodies was also confirmed.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden referred to the actions of the Russian military as "genocide," and the International Criminal Court visited Bucha to begin an investigation into war crimes.
