[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongnam Office of Education is introducing an artificial intelligence (AI)-based assessment system called ‘Toktok AI Learning.’

The AI-based assessment system was established to help students develop self-directed learning skills and improve academic achievement.

Students set their own grade level and progress, then proceed with the AI-recommended ‘Today's Learning,’ or teachers use the AI recommendation feature to support individualized customized learning.

When students study the assessment questions provided according to their progress, related concept learning and similar problems are offered along with the analysis results to encourage self-study.

Unlike conventional simple question-solving systems, this system analyzes the evaluation results of individual learning activities, question-solving methods, processes, and frequency, allowing students to monitor their learning level and changes.

An education office official stated that as of April, 97,673 students from 971 schools are using Toktok AI Math, which provides 16,936 questions, and that the system will be expanded to include science and English subjects in the second half of this year.

Lee Jeongmin, a teacher at Towol Elementary School in Changwon, said, “Every morning, students spent 10 minutes on recommended learning using their personal smartphones or tablet PCs. It was good because they could immediately check the grading results, and concept learning related to incorrect questions was recommended, allowing them to promptly supplement their weak areas.”

Superintendent Park Jonghun said, “The AI-based assessment system that fosters students’ self-directed learning skills, combined with smart devices provided individually to students, will become a new direction for future education. It will accelerate the realization of personalized education that transcends time and space.”
