A man in his 20s, the biological father who abused his 15-day-old son, was sentenced to imprisonment.

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Woo-seok] A man in his 20s, who was prosecuted for abusing his 15-day-old son, was sentenced to imprisonment.

The 12th Criminal Division of Daegu District Court (Chief Judge Jo Jeong-hwan) sentenced A (20), who was charged with violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes (child abuse causing serious injury), to 2 years and 6 months in prison on the 15th.

Additionally, he was ordered to complete 40 hours of a child abuse treatment program and was banned from employment at child-related institutions for 3 years.

The biological father A was prosecuted for child abuse on October 22 of last year, after repeatedly hitting his 15-day-old son because the baby would not fall asleep and kept crying.

The prosecution requested the court to sentence A to 6 years in prison during last month's final hearing.

The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "As the victim's biological father, he had the duty to protect the victim so that he could grow up happily and safely more than anyone else, but he abused and injured an infant less than one month old. Considering that the victim is still receiving outpatient treatment, that the crime caused irreparable wounds and pain not only to the victim but also to the victim's mother, and that he has not been forgiven by the victim's mother, among other factors."
