[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] T'way Air announced on the 15th that it has newly been allocated a thrice-weekly traffic right for the Incheon-Ulaanbaatar route through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's international air transport quota allocation review held the previous day, and plans to launch the new route in June.

Having laid the groundwork for a leap forward with the recent introduction of the large aircraft A330, T'way Air will further expand its air routes in the post-COVID-19 era with the acquisition of the Mongolian route traffic rights.

Despite the crisis in the aviation industry caused by the COVID-19 virus, T'way Air prepared for future growth by introducing the large A330 aircraft. Starting next month, it plans to accelerate the expansion of air routes with the international deployment of the A330. T'way Air is also considering deploying the A330 (347 seats) on the Incheon-Ulaanbaatar route.

Mongolia boasts a pristine natural environment centered around its capital Ulaanbaatar, including the steppe plateau, Lake Kh?vsg?l, the Gobi Desert, and Terelj National Park. It was a popular emerging travel destination before the pandemic, full of unique attractions such as stargazing, experiencing Mongolia's traditional ger dwellings, and traditional cuisine.

With the increased options for the Mongolian route, not only travel demand but also business travelers, expatriates, and international students will be able to use convenient schedules and reasonable fares.

T'way Air plans to assist customers' convenient travel, including business trips for corporate clients, by operating a practical and affordable business class on the A330 aircraft.

Following the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's recently promoted 'International Flight Gradual Return to Normalcy Plan,' which is expected to increase overseas travel demand, supply is also anticipated to expand. T'way Air plans to enhance competitiveness by further increasing available seats through operating various international routes, including the Mongolian route.

T'way Air stated that while quickly recovering passenger traffic in Southeast Asia and Japan with its existing B737-800 (189 seats) aircraft, it will continue to launch new medium- and long-haul routes such as Singapore and Australia with the large A330-300. Additionally, it plans to secure as many traffic rights and slots as possible allocated through the merger of major airlines, aiming to achieve the fastest leap in the post-COVID-19 era with a competitive portfolio.

A T'way Air official said, “We will ensure customers can conveniently use the service during the peak Mongolian travel season through rapid preparation for the launch,” and added, “By offering more reasonable prices than the previously high fares on the Mongolian route, we expect to bring new changes to Mongolian travel.”
