[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Jang Yeon-ju, the Justice Party's preliminary candidate for mayor of Gwangju, stated on the 15th regarding the court's decision to accept Hyundai Development Company's request for a provisional suspension of business operations, "It is a decision that acknowledges the business activities of a company that took the lives of innocent citizens and opens the path to its recovery."

In a statement released that day, Candidate Jang criticized, "Hyundai Development Company's actions of launching all-out lawsuits while ignoring the rightful measures of the administrative authorities are absolutely unacceptable," and called it "an abnormal act of declaring war on the citizens of Gwangju."

He also emphasized, "If we fail to show a firm stance against a company that caused massive citizen disasters through illegal acts, it will send the wrong signal to unethical companies, and the damage will inevitably fall back on the citizens," adding, "Hyundai Development Company's construction business registration must be canceled to permanently expel it from the industry."
