[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do, is accepting applications for the designation of ‘Animal Welfare-type Green Livestock Farms,’ which practice compliance with appropriate livestock rearing density, targeting local livestock farmers.

According to the city on the 15th, the designation of Green Livestock Farms is given to livestock farms that produce safe livestock products through improved livestock rearing environments and hygienic management.

Specifically, farms that practice and maintain ‘low-density rearing at 5-15% below the standard rearing density,’ ‘securing recommended area per livestock species,’ ‘installation of translucent roofs and open/close type roofs,’ and ‘creation of rural landscapes harmonious with the surroundings of the livestock barns’ are designated.

The city supports designated livestock farms with an annual incentive of 2 million KRW (25% provincial subsidy, 75% city subsidy) by evaluating their operation, maintenance status, and follow-up management.

Eligibility for application includes livestock farms that have received or are preparing to receive at least one of the following: ‘organic/antibiotic-free livestock products,’ ‘HACCP certification,’ ‘clean livestock farms,’ or ‘government-designated animal welfare livestock farms.’

Applications can be submitted by visiting the administrative welfare centers of the town, township, or neighborhood where the livestock farm is located.

So far, the city has identified 19 farms (9 Hanwoo cattle, 1 dairy cow, 1 broiler, 8 laying hens) and designated them as Green Livestock Farms.

Park Chang-gi, head of the Livestock Division of Naju City, said, “We will strive to discover Green Livestock Farms for animal welfare and the production and supply of safe livestock products, contributing to the sustainable development of the livestock industry and enhancing consumer trust in our livestock products.”
