[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] The leadership of the People Power Party actively defended Han Dong-hoon, the nominee for Minister of Justice, at the party's floor strategy meeting held on the 15th.

Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, stated at the meeting, "Political attacks against nominee Han are intensifying," adding, "It is as if Han has committed some illegal act or failed to properly perform his duties as a prosecutor."

He continued, "As you know, Han played a key role in the so-called 'cleansing of deep-rooted evils' investigations during the first two years of the Moon Jae-in administration. At that time, the Democratic Party praised him as the best prosecutor," and pointed out, "However, under Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, while serving as head of the anti-corruption investigation division, he led investigations into the Ulsan mayoral election fraud case and the Cho Kuk case, after which the attitude of the Moon administration and the Democratic Party suddenly changed."

Kwon referred to Han as a victim persecuted by the Moon administration and the Democratic Party. He said, "They began to portray Han as if he were a devil," and added, "They accused him as if he were a suspect in the Channel A media-prosecutor collusion case." He went on, "However, that case was dismissed, and the investigating prosecutors reported 11 times that it should be dismissed, but due to repeated rejections by the Democratic Party's Minister of Justice, it was only recently dismissed."

He added, "Han is someone who has gone through the process of realizing justice solely based on law and principles as a prosecutor," urging, "The Democratic Party should stop political attacks and verify Han's morality, ability, and qualifications during the confirmation hearing." He also added, "The Democratic Party's political attacks are ultimately aimed at pursuing their own political interests."

Seong Il-jong, chairman of the People Power Party's Policy Committee, also defended Han at the meeting. Seong said, "The Democratic Party is reacting with near hysteria," demanding that they stop personal attacks.

He continued, "The public does not understand the Democratic Party's intense emotional response," and said, "What are they afraid of? Verify nominee Han confidently, and if there are any issues, disclose them to the public."
