Korea Gas Corporation Signs Agreement with KIPO for Core Green Hydrogen Technology Development

[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Korea Gas Corporation announced on the 15th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korean Intellectual Property Office for the development of core green hydrogen technologies.

Through this MOU, the two organizations have agreed to strengthen cooperation in developing core technologies in the green hydrogen industry and to play an active and leading role in the government's energy transition policy.

The two parties plan to enhance collaboration for the development of core technologies in the green hydrogen sector, including intellectual property-based hydrogen liquefaction process technology development, demonstration projects for hydrogen blending in natural gas pipelines, and liquefied hydrogen storage tank technology development.

Earlier this year, Gas Corporation stated in its New Year's address that 2022 would be recognized as a golden time determining the fate of the next 30 years and declared it the inaugural year to leap forward as Korea's representative hydrogen platform operator.

To this end, the company is focusing on projects such as overseas renewable energy development, clean hydrogen importation, operation of liquefied hydrogen vessels, and hydrogen blending in natural gas pipelines.

Additionally, to secure core technologies and patents in the hydrogen field, it is investing in research and development through strategic alliances with global energy leading companies, joint R&D, and mergers and acquisitions.

A Gas Corporation official said, “The MOU is another solid stepping stone prepared by Gas Corporation to secure core technologies in the green hydrogen field,” adding, “We will continue to actively participate in the entire value chain from green hydrogen production to supply, take the lead in building the green hydrogen ecosystem, and do our best to secure future new growth engines.”
