[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Osstem Implant announced on the 15th that it won the main prize at the world-renowned design competition, Germany’s ‘iF Design Award 2022 (International Forum Design Award 2022),’ with its dental treatment chair (unit chair) ‘K5’.

Since its inception in 1953, the iF Design Award is considered one of the world’s top three prestigious design competitions alongside Germany’s ‘Red Dot Design Award’ and the United States’ ‘IDEA Design Award.’ This year, approximately 11,000 products from 57 countries were submitted.

Osstem Implant’s unit chair ‘K5’ received high scores for its ergonomic design, use of user-friendly materials, and distinctive color composition, earning the main prize (WINNER) in the ‘Medicine/Health’ product design category.

The head of Osstem Implant’s Design Research Institute explained, “We applied organic aesthetics and edge elements so that dentists can provide treatment in an optimal environment and patients can receive treatment in a stable atmosphere, and we used colors that provide psychological comfort. We designed it considering ease of operation, space utilization, user interface (UI), and infection control, resulting in treatment convenience that is remarkably superior to other products.”

The Osstem Implant Design Research Institute, which led this design award achievement, is the largest organization overseeing all designs of Osstem Implant and the largest in the domestic dental industry. It is composed of specialized designers in various fields such as product, brand, software UI/UX, and interior, creating synergy across diverse design areas.

Osstem Implant plans to increase its global unit chair market share by obtaining local approvals for the ‘K5’ in 13 countries this year, including the United States, Japan, Canada, and Mexico. Osstem Implant stated, “The predecessor of K5, the K3, recorded the highest domestic sales within one year of its launch and has maintained the number one position in domestic unit chair sales for seven consecutive years. Since the quality, technology, and marketability of Osstem Implant’s unit chairs have already been proven in the market, we will actively participate in the global unit chair market this year through extensive overseas approvals for the K5.”
