[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang is partnering with Kia to develop a 'Coupang customized delivery vehicle' to enhance delivery efficiency, safety, and the convenience of delivery personnel's work.

On the 15th, Coupang announced that it signed the 'Coupang-Kia PBV Business Project Memorandum of Understanding.' According to the agreement, the two companies plan to collaborate on the development of the 'Coupang-Kia PBV (Purpose Built Vehicle)'.

This is an urban logistics customized electric cargo van with improved loading efficiency compared to the existing '1t Coupang Car.' The newly developed dedicated vehicle is designed with comprehensive consideration of delivery efficiency, safety, and the convenience of delivery personnel's work from the planning stage. It aims to optimize the loading space to increase delivery efficiency, as well as enhance work convenience for delivery personnel through features such as sliding doors and lightweight cargo compartment shelves.

Additionally, collaboration will be conducted to strengthen safety during vehicle operation. Coupang is currently making efforts to prevent safety accidents by installing more than 10 types of safety devices, including around-view monitoring and integrated sensors, on the Coupang Car. Through this agreement, integrated safety specifications will be applied to the customized delivery vehicle, and maintenance will be conducted through a monitoring system, establishing a more professional safety accident prevention system.

No Jae-guk, Head of Coupang Logistics Policy Office, said, "Coupang has made various efforts to improve delivery efficiency as well as the safety and work convenience of delivery personnel," adding, "We expect these efforts to yield higher-level results through collaboration with Kia."
