[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Daegu City and Gyeongbuk Province have begun solidifying the campaign projects related to the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport through the Transition Committee Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport TF.

The New Airport TF held its first meeting on the 14th at the Korea Financial Training Institute in Seoul to prepare measures for fulfilling the campaign promises.

This Integrated New Airport TF was formed at the suggestion of Hong Seok-jun, a member of the Special Committee on Regional Balanced Development, and consists of Hong Seok-jun, Lee In-seon, and four experts recommended by Daegu and Gyeongbuk. On this day, TF members, officials from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and related officials from Daegu and Gyeongbuk attended.

The attendees listened to the central government and local governments’ plans for fulfilling campaign promises in five areas: military airport relocation and former site development, construction of a civilian airport and creation of a hinterland economic zone, and establishment of connected transportation networks, and sought reasonable measures.

Daegu City and Gyeongbuk Province requested amendments to the Special Act on Military Airport Relocation and Support, participation of national public institutions, and increased national funding for the former site development project.

They also requested national funding for the construction of a civilian airport through the enactment of a special law and inclusion in the national plan, creation of a global airport economic zone concentrated with aviation (drone) electronic parts hub complexes, small and medium-sized aircraft (drone) MRO clusters, and rapid construction of roads and railways through exemption from preliminary feasibility studies.

Committee member Hong Seok-jun emphasized, “The early construction of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport, development of the former K-2 site, and creation of a global airport economic zone are President Yoon Seok-yeol’s first campaign promises for Daegu and Gyeongbuk,” and said, “Please actively consider ensuring that the president-elect’s promises are fully selected as national tasks and implemented promptly.”

Committee member Lee In-seon said, “The new government’s motto is the era of local regions,” and added, “An active whole-of-government response is necessary to fulfill the campaign promises that embody the president-elect’s national philosophy.”
