[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Choi Ki-bong, a preliminary candidate for the Geochang County Governor election, made a bold proposal for unification to preliminary candidate Lee Hong-gi on the 14th, saying, "Geochang is now filled with the voice of public sentiment hoping for change through a competitive unified candidate."

On this day, Candidate Choi stated, "The upcoming local election in June is not simply an election to choose a local government head," adding, "It is a crucial process determining whether Geochang will advance as the central city of western Gyeongnam or fall behind. Geochang must not become a county without further change or innovation."

He also appealed, "To move toward a new future, we must respond to the stern demands of the residents," but lamented, "The reality of Geochang is flowing the same as before, without change or inspiration. Facing a crisis without a future vision, the city's competitiveness is gradually being lost."

He pointed out, "If Geochang is left as it is, it will inevitably face another four years of stagnation," explaining, "Once a self-proclaimed central city of western Gyeongnam with a population of 100,000, Geochang has become a city at risk of local extinction with a population of 60,000, and unemployment is rising. Without a large budget from central government ministries, revitalizing the local economy and proceeding with new projects is difficult."

Candidate Choi said that this sense of crisis strongly motivated his decision to run for Geochang County Governor.

He emphasized that his strong advantage lies in the administrative experience and extensive personal network he built while serving as a policy advisor to the National Assembly and as chief secretary to the Governor of Gyeongnam Province.

He proposed to Candidate Lee Hong-gi, "Geochang is filled with the voice of public sentiment hoping for change through a competitive unified candidate. I respectfully request unification, hoping that we can unite our intentions, join hands, and have an open and sincere dialogue about Geochang's new future."

Candidate Choi said, "Residents and party members will choose the Geochang County Governor candidate based on individual qualities, convictions, and the values held by the People Power Party," adding, "The conditions for unification negotiations must keep all possibilities open and be ready to discuss any topic together."
