Typhoon 'Megi' in the Philippines Causes 58 Deaths and Over 100 Injuries Among Residents

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The death toll from the tropical typhoon 'Megi' in the Philippines has reportedly exceeded 50.

According to AFP on the 13th, Typhoon Megi, which made landfall in the Philippines three days ago, brought heavy rains causing landslides and floods, resulting in 58 deaths so far. With a maximum wind speed of 80 km/h, Typhoon Megi is the first typhoon to make landfall in the Philippines this year.

The area with the most damage is Leyte Province in the central region. According to Leyte authorities, at least 47 people have died and 27 are missing. Additionally, more than 100 residents have been injured.

Three deaths were also reported in Negros Oriental Province in the central region and Mindanao Island in the south, respectively.

Disaster authorities are conducting rescue operations with the military and police in the affected areas.
