[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province is embarking on a pilot project for a metropolitan-level smart city integrated platform utilizing artificial intelligence and data.
The province announced on the 13th that it has been selected as a pilot local government for the "AI and Data-Based Smart City Integrated Platform Model Development and Demonstration Research" project promoted by the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement (KAIA).
Previously, the province participated in this project jointly with Cheonan and Asan cities after conducting a demand survey of 15 cities and counties and reviewing specifications for the integrated platform server and surveillance cameras.
According to the selection results, the province along with Cheonan and Asan will build a cloud-based metropolitan integrated platform model based on AI and data over six months and demonstrate a metropolitan-level AI wanted vehicle tracking system.
The cloud-based metropolitan platform is a project that links basic local governments (including those with existing platforms) without integrated platforms to the cloud-based metropolitan integrated platform to provide urban safety net services.
Once the integrated platform is established, the province expects that neighboring local governments will be able to detect situations such as wildfires, floods, and vehicle tracking early and enable preemptive responses and cooperation.
The AI wanted vehicle tracking system is a system that improves existing security surveillance cameras to enable AI-based vehicle license plate recognition and supports metropolitan-level tracking.
The province explains that once this system is completed, it will be possible to track wanted vehicles crossing administrative boundaries without interruption.
Before being selected as a pilot local government, the province built the "Chungnam Smart City Metropolitan Integrated Platform" last year, linking about 29,000 surveillance cameras in the area to provide real-time on-site video to each control room and dispatch vehicle upon incident or accident reports.
Currently, the province is establishing an advanced policy to maximize system efficiency, and through this demonstration, plans to develop a metropolitan service that utilizes all local government surveillance cameras, drastically reducing surveillance camera installation costs.
Hong Soon-kwang, Director of the Construction Policy Division of the province, said, "To experience smart city services, infrastructure construction and service enhancement are both necessary, which is why we decided to participate in the demonstration project. We will improve smart city services and establish a metropolitan-level leading model to provide smart city services that residents can truly feel."
