Jeongeup-si '2023 Resident Participation Budget' Project Contest

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeollabuk-do, is accepting proposals for the 2023 participatory budgeting projects until the 31st of next month.

According to the city on the 13th, the participatory budgeting system is designed to reflect citizens' opinions from the budget drafting stage and to enhance citizens' interest and understanding of the budget, thereby ensuring transparency and reliability in financial management.

Any Jeongeup citizen can submit proposals, and participation is open through the Jeongeup City Hall website, mail, or in-person submission.

The total scale of the proposed projects is 500 million KRW, with each project limited to within 50 million KRW.

The eligible projects include ▲ major issues such as low birthrate and aging population countermeasures, fine dust reduction, and ▲ citizen convenience projects that can resolve daily inconveniences with a small budget.

However, projects violating laws, supporting specific organizations, subsidy projects, business or sales-oriented projects, and general event-type projects are excluded.

Projects received through the call will be reviewed by relevant departments, then finally selected through the Citizens' Committee for Participatory Budgeting deliberation (in October), and reflected in the 2023 budget proposal submitted to the Jeongeup City Council (in November).

A city official stated, “We plan to actively reflect citizens' reasonable budget requests in the budget formulation,” and added, “We ask for much interest and participation in the proposal projects with the attitude that citizens are the true owners of city administration.”

Meanwhile, Jeongeup City's participatory budgeting projects reflected in 2022 totaled 198 cases amounting to 4.805 billion KRW.
