[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] Namwon City in Jeonbuk announced on the 13th that it held a forum on the 12th to derive measures to revitalize the social economy.
About 50 people from administrative and intermediary support organizations, including departments related to the social economy, the Community Support Center, the Rural Comprehensive Support Center, the Urban Regeneration Support Center, the Regional Self-Sufficiency Center, and the New Vitality Plus Project Group, attended the forum.
The forum held in the conference room of the Namwon City Cosmetics Industry Support Center featured a morning presentation on the operation cases of the Community Support Center and a special lecture on social economy regional development strategies. In the afternoon, the head of the Job Economy Division explained the current status and development plans of Namwon City's social economy.
Additionally, explanations of projects by departments related to the social economy, activities and suggestions from intermediary support organizations, expert evaluations from the Jeonbuk Economic and Trade Promotion Agency and the Jeonbuk Social Economy Solidarity Conference were heard, concluding with closing remarks from the deputy mayor.
The city proposed development plans for revitalizing the social economy by department and discussed why and for what purpose social economy revitalization should be pursued.
The social economy is an economic activity based on mutual aid and reciprocity within the local community to realize common interests and social values, such as resolving polarization and creating jobs for vulnerable groups.
Currently, Namwon City's social economy enterprises include 18 (preliminary) social enterprises, 9 village enterprises, and 18 social cooperatives, employing about 270 people, with corporate sales amounting to approximately 11.6 billion KRW.
A city official stated, “The social economy is an activity that solves local problems through solidarity and cooperation and overcomes the limitations of the market economy. Through this forum, each department will look at each other's projects from the perspective of the social economy, and intermediary support organizations will gain vitality in communication, opening the way to create a social economy model based on Namwon's local resources and infrastructure.”
