Yoon Nominates Han Hwajin as Minister of Environment and Cho Seunghwan as Minister of Oceans and Fisheries (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporters Buaeri and Jeong Donghoon] President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol has nominated Han Hwajin, Honorary Research Fellow at the Korea Environment Institute, as Minister of Environment, and Cho Seunghwan, former President of the Korea Institute of Marine Science and Technology Promotion, as Minister of Oceans and Fisheries.


On the afternoon of the 13th, at a press conference held at the Presidential Transition Committee in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, President-elect Yoon stated, "Candidate Han is a policy expert who has researched environmental policies at the Korea Environment Institute for over 30 years."


He added, "Candidate Han is the right person to design sustainable environmental policies based on social consensus, moving away from regulation-centered environmental policies."


Candidate Cho has served as Director General of Maritime Safety at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Director of Marine Policy, and Director of the Busan Regional Oceans and Fisheries Office. President-elect Yoon emphasized, "Candidate Cho is a top expert in the field of oceans and fisheries who has held key positions related to oceans and fisheries," and "He is the right person to foster the development of the marine industry and to draft the blueprint for a new maritime power centered on global logistics."
