[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Lee Young, a member of the People Power Party, has been nominated as the Minister of SMEs and Startups for the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, which will be launched in May.
President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol nominated eight candidates for ministerial positions and the Chief Secretary of the Presidential Office at the Presidential Transition Committee office in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, at 2 p.m. on the 13th. Among them, Lee Young was appointed as the candidate for Minister of SMEs and Startups.
President-elect Yoon said, "Candidate Lee is a venture entrepreneur who grew a newly established venture company into a strong small business, and has been actively engaged in legislative activities to foster small and venture businesses in the National Assembly," adding, "During the presidential election process, he worked with me to design a vision for becoming a digital data hegemon nation."
He continued, "I judged that he is the right person to support the SMEs and startups, which are the treasure trove of our economy and jobs, to take a step further and grow," explaining the background of the appointment.
Candidate Lee founded and served as CEO of Teruten, an IT security specialist company, served as president of the Korea Women Venture Association and vice chairman of the Korea International Trade Association, and was elected as a proportional representative of the Future United Party (now People Power Party) in the 21st general election.
In addition, Candidate Lee has proposed the "Three Acts Package to Revitalize SMEs and Venture Businesses" to foster SMEs and startups, and has carried out legislative activities to help the re-leap of small and venture businesses and to innovate the venture ecosystem.
