[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeonnam Hwasun-gun announced on the 13th that it will conduct a mass foot-and-mouth disease vaccination campaign for the first half of the year until the 29th.

The vaccination targets are 639 cattle farms with 20,974 cattle and 111 goat farms with 11,630 goats. Livestock that have been vaccinated less than 4 weeks ago or are scheduled for slaughter within 2 weeks are excluded.

For small-scale farms (less than 50 cattle or less than 300 goats), vaccinations will be administered directly by public veterinarians, while commercial farms (50 or more cattle, 300 or more goats) can purchase vaccines from the Livestock Cooperative (100% subsidized) and vaccinate themselves.

During the mass vaccination period, the county will continuously encourage vaccination through neighborhood meetings and text messages to raise awareness of quarantine and ensure smooth vaccination progress.

To improve antibody positivity rates, monitoring tests will be conducted within 4 weeks after the mass vaccination.

Farms that do not meet the antibody positivity rate standards (80% for cattle, 60% for goats) will be subject to fines, re-vaccination orders, and re-inspection within one month.

A county official said, “We will prevent foot-and-mouth disease in advance through thorough quarantine management and vaccination,” and added, “We hope all livestock farmers actively participate to achieve a 100% vaccination rate.”
