South Korea will participate as the guest of honor at the Bogot? International Book Fair. On the 13th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that it will operate a guest of honor pavilion at the Bogot? International Book Fair held in Colombia from the 19th of this month to the 2nd of next month. The operation will be jointly conducted by the Korea Publishers Association, the Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency, the Literature Translation Institute of Korea, the Gwacheon National Science Museum, and the Korean Cultural Center in Mexico.
A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official stated, "This was an agenda item discussed during the summit meeting when Colombian President Iv?n Duque visited Korea last August," adding, "It marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations and aims to create an opportunity for publishing exchange and cooperation." The official also added, "Colombia is scheduled to participate as the guest of honor at the Seoul International Book Fair in June."
The Bogot? International Book Fair is the second largest book event in South America. It attracts an average of 600,000 visitors annually. Approximately 600 publishing companies participate in the 51,000㎡ exhibition hall, hosting up to 1,500 cultural, literary, and artistic events.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold various exhibitions and events under the theme of "Coexistence" at the 3,000㎡ guest of honor pavilion. These include thematic exhibitions, exhibitions of Korean authors, displays of award-winning books recognized as the most beautiful books in Korea, and picture book exhibitions. The pavilion will address issues of coexistence between humans, between nations, and between humans and nature.
Authors such as Kim Kyung-wook, Eun Hee-kyung, Lee Moon-jae, Jung Young-soo, Jung Yoo-jung, and Han Kang (online) will meet local readers. At literary events organized by the Literature Translation Institute of Korea, they will engage in diverse dialogues with Colombian authors. The Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency will exhibit over 170 Korean picture books translated and published in Spanish under the theme "Voice, Harmony." Writers including Lee Su-ji, Park Yeon-cheol, Kim Hyo-eun, and Jung Jin-ho will participate in related discussions and experiential events. Non-fiction authors such as Kim Hong-jung (sociology), Kim Baek-young (historical sociology), Jung In-kyung (science), and Kang Ho-jung (ecology) will also seek solutions for sustainable living through dialogues and other activities.
