The Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station announced on the 13th that they have booked A (57) on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (dangerous driving causing death).


A is accused of running a red light and colliding with an oncoming cargo truck at an intersection within Hanam Industrial Complex in Gwangsan-gu around 4:40 a.m. that day, resulting in the death of the driver B (56).


At the time, A's blood alcohol concentration was found to be at the level warranting license suspension.


B was taken to a nearby hospital after the accident but was reported to have died.


The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident through analysis of the black box footage, and it has not yet been confirmed whether the drunk driver was speeding.
