[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] T'way Air announced on the 13th that it recently signed a ULD supply contract with German company Jettainer to enhance efficient cargo transportation and management, and is continuing preparations for international cargo transport through the introduction of containers and pallets.

ULD (Unit Load Device) is a unit load container used for air cargo transportation, designed to efficiently load various sizes and types of cargo by container, maximize space utilization, and securely fix cargo in the aircraft's cargo hold to ensure safe operation. Both containers and pallets are types of ULDs. Containers are used for carrying passengers' bags, mail, and lightweight cargo, while pallets are used for heavy and large cargo.

By utilizing ULDs, large volumes of cargo can be loaded quickly and safely into the aircraft. They protect the cargo from adverse weather, theft, and damage. Additionally, they allow transportation of large and special cargo that cannot be transported by small and medium-sized aircraft.

Jettainer is a subsidiary of Lufthansa Cargo in Germany. It owns approximately 100,000 ULDs across 500 locations worldwide and is a global ULD management and supply company. T'way Air will receive customized ULDs stably from Jettainer. It will also receive efficient maintenance services and solutions such as ULD control and tracking based on IT technology.

T'way Air completed the introduction of containers last month and is preparing to introduce pallets in May. Recently, it obtained hazardous materials transportation permits from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for special cargo transportation, smoothly continuing preparations for business expansion.

Through this, T'way Air plans to prioritize deploying large aircraft A330-300 models to regions such as Singapore and Vietnam, where both passenger and cargo demand are sufficient, and continue strengthening its cargo business.

A T'way Air official stated, “We expect to improve the efficiency of cargo transportation management through partnerships with global ULD companies,” adding, “In line with the introduction of large aircraft, we will actively expand both passenger and cargo transportation simultaneously and quickly achieve leaps and growth in the post-COVID era.”
