[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 13th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with hy (formerly Korea Yakult) on the 12th to revitalize Ddareungi, a non-face-to-face transportation mode that has gained attention during the COVID-19 period, and to further promote the health of its users.

The signing ceremony was held in the large conference room on the 20th floor of the Seosomun 2 Building. The Director of Urban Transportation of Seoul and the head of hy’s Integrated M&S division attended. The main content of the agreement is to provide benefits from hy to citizens who use Ddareungi and wish to participate, consisting of three major collaborative projects.

First, hy will provide Fredit points, an online mall operated by hy, proportional to the time spent using Ddareungi. Users will earn 10 won per minute of Ddareungi use, up to a maximum of 3,000 points per month. Accumulated points can be checked on the Fredit app and can be used like cash on both the Fredit app and website.

Using statistics such as the monthly number of Ddareungi rides, usage time, and travel distance, themes will be selected, and users who achieve the corresponding challenges will receive hy products. These events are planned to be held at least once per quarter in the second half of this year, with specific schedules, challenges, and products to be announced separately after further consultation. Additionally, depending on the collaboration results such as expanding Ddareungi users, hy plans to purchase Ddareungi mobile tickets, bicycle safety products, and other items to be used as prizes for themed challenges and joint campaigns.

Seoul and hy will immediately begin detailed consultations on themed challenges and system development related to point accumulation starting in April, aiming to complete these by May. After a beta test throughout June, the program will be launched to citizens in July. Seoul plans to analyze the results of the agreement with hy and continuously seek further MOUs with other private companies to promote the use of Ddareungi.

Baek Ho, Director of Urban Transportation of Seoul, said, “We expect that citizens using Ddareungi will receive various benefits through this agreement,” adding, “As Ddareungi is a representative transportation welfare project loved by citizens, with cumulative usage expected to surpass 100 million rides in the first half of this year, we will continue to promote various convenience services based on a close cooperative relationship.”
